‘It’s all about talking to your inner child,’ says Elly. ‘Working with Alan, it felt very natural to open up about some of the most intimate thoughts and feelings I had about my growth as a person. The song focuses on the realisation that after a certain amount of life experience you need the vulnerable part of yourself to come to light so you can progress and be happy – no matter how hard it may be to face sometimes. This was a great experience writing such a personal song with a close, dear friend like Alan’.
‘When I sat with Elly at that café in London,’ explains Alan ‘I was after a challenging year during which I had found myself digging deep inside my heart and my past. It all spilled out that afternoon – the melody, the words and the energy – and over the next few months, we chipped away at it to eventually reveal “Myself & Me”, the song that was always there.’
The song will appear on Alan’s new album Mountain Common that drops on May 15th
Elly O’Keeffe is a Cork singer and songwriter now based in London. With a voice that is as haunting as it is uplifting, she first made her mark on the Irish music scene at a very young age, singing with her family in various venues around the country. Elly’s folk-based style of music has developed massively since she first began writing in 2006. Her debut album ‘When We Live’ garnered great acclaim and airplay and her soon-to-be-released EP promises to showcase her development both as a musician and a skilled, insightful songwriter.
Alan Daniel Tobin (ADT) is a West Cork-based songwriter, producer and musician whose music spans the sadness and delight of everyday life. Hugely influenced by his family, the Atlantic Ocean and the wilds of West Cork, his songs carry a deep sense of place. He has released four albums (two as ADT and two with alt-folk trio LOWmountain), with his next solo offering, Mountain Common, due out on May 15th. He has shared stages with Glen Hansard, Gemma Hayes and Mick Flannery amongst many others, and has appeared on RTÉ’s Other Voices and TG4’s Glór Tíre. His live shows move effortlessly between hushed intimacy and soaring atmospherics that linger long after the final note.
